You may find my post Spiritual Awakenings for the Un-Spiritual to shed light on why I had a challenge working through this.
First of all, if you barely believe in something, its pretty hard to accept it as a truth.
Secondly, if you don’t want to believe in something for whatever reason (likely fear), its pretty easy to cherry-pick your facts to reinforce whatever you need to cling on to.
Thirdly, if you hate labels and being put into a box with others you don’t feel like you identify with- you will probably resist the notion…and may even be insulted by it.
I have come to accept that I have a gift that allows me to enjoy the world on a multi-sensory level. This means that I see, feel, smell, hear and just know things in a different way than most people do.
And probably most people can learn to be like this. It is actually very natural, but I believe requires a re-birth process. As part of this process, I believe that you will have to un-learn many of the conditions that took likely decades to form your personality (and all the blockages) to this inherent (dormant) ability.
I believe that rather than classifying these experiences as something new age or otherwise; the approach to the way the mind, body and soul interrelate with the universe should be viewed as completely natural.
I feel like it forms what makes a human whole.
Its not a belief system. It is an acknowledgement.
Like gravity- we do not need to understand what it is or how it works to know it always there and is working.
Like the dust particles the fill the thick air that I can see with my bare eyes– there is a presence always around us that we usually cannot notice. It makes up the universe. IF we acknowledge it as simply being there, we embrace another layer of experiencing our environment.
And I know this because I know what I have experienced. And when I finally acknowledged it- it just clicked. It felt comfortable. I did not even choose to believe in it- it forced me to…I could no longer deny it. That is how natural is it.
